this giving season, donate and offset your carbon emissions.

What are carbon offsets?

A carbon offset is a credit for greenhouse emissions reduced or removed from the atmosphere from an emission reduction project, which can be purchased by industry or individuals to compensate for the emissions they are generating. These credits fund vital planet-saving activities (such as The Farmlink Project!) and direct finance to areas that need it most in order to reduce carbon emissions in the immediate.

Why do people, companies, and governments purchase carbon offsets?

The U.N. climate report has warned us that global carbon pollution must be cut in half in the next 10 years for us to avoid “catastrophic, irreversible damage to our planet.” It is clear that action must be taken now.
For what we can't currently reduce, buying carbon offsets on the voluntary market is the best way to offset one’s impact.  Individuals should purchase carbon credits if they want to support projects sustaining the environment for future generations and find a long-term solution to becoming carbon neutral. In addition, investing in carbon credits means investing in local communities, providing jobs, improving health.

Carbon credits have already reduced the amount of GHGs in the atmosphere by more than 1 billion tons. This is the equivalent of taking around 213 million passenger vehicles off the road for a year. Investing in carbon offsets helps an individual reduce their footprint, and it is one of the more simple steps we can take. However, it is important to note that
