Farmlink works at the speed and scale of American agriculture.
We work directly with farmers to provide all levels of government with solutions tailored to support agricultural communities. Whether it’s tax incentives that make donating surplus produce financially viable for growers, or mobilizing government resources to rescue nutritious fruits and vegetables, pay the farmers, and feed nearby communities, Farmlink’s extensive ties across the agricultural system produce solutions that work. We go beyond the constraints of federal food programs, using existing infrastructure, to support farmers, reduce surplus, and get food to families as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Feed Communities
Farmlink is the leading national hunger-fighting organization that works with any entity willing and able to distribute fresh produce to Americans experiencing hunger. This approach allows us to serve the communities who are typically left out by the charitable food system; we work with and beyond food banks that participate in federal food assistance programs.
When Farmlink uses packaging that makes food easy to unload without large equipment, we increase the number of smaller pantries and charities that can receive fresh, nutritious produce.
Working with a vast network of growers and food production companies allows us to deliver diverse and nutritionally rich produce to more communities.
Our solutions reflect the diversity of the network that makes our movement possible.
When apple sauce and apple juice processors abruptly canceled their contracts with farmers in the fall of 2024, entire orchards of apples were at risk of going to waste in West Virginia. Farmlink partnered with state and federal agriculture departments, joining state and federal resources with Farmlink’s network of hunger fighting entities and logistical experience. This initiative rescued over 18 million pounds of apples and distributed them to communities experiencing hunger, starting with the growers’ neighbors and extending as far as New Mexico.
Instead of falling to the ground, the apples were harvested directly into bins, transported in trucks across the country, and placed in parking lots, community centers, and food banks across the country, where families could come and pick the apples to take home. Farmlink’s work connecting growers, communities, and government transformed these apples’ fate, from waste to pies, preserves, and more.
