OUR PURPOSE: TO MAKE THE ABUNDANCE OF PRODUCE ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE

Ag Day honors agricultural producers and their invaluable efforts to feed American families. We are doing our part to celebrate by giving the fruits of this labor a home.

why is there food waste abundance, and why is it a problem?

In the 1970s, major agricultural innovations allowed us to exponentially increase crop yields. This time period, known as the Green Revolution, expanded the use of genetic engineering, precision agriculture, chemical fertilizers, and incentivized the overproduction of certain crops through federal subsidies. But instead of this food abundance leading to a hunger free world, we live in a world where this food surplus is wasted.

Nearly 1/3rd of it, every single year.

The Root of the problem

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that 30% of global food loss occurs at the agricultural production and harvest stage before the produce even leaves the farm. Click on a dot below to learn more.

At The Farmlink Project, we believe that everyone deserves access to healthy, nutritious produce!

Lettuce say that again, everyone! We provide food access for all: food banks & pantries, churches, trade unions, health clinics, tribal governments, senior centers, the list goes on!

We primarily recover fresh fruits and vegetables that would have otherwise gone to waste.

Make no waste. Leave no trace! It’s easy to forget how much energy goes into producing the food we eat. That’s why when we recover food, Farmlink makes the most of all the energy imputed – from the water to grow a head of cabbage, to the fuel to run a farmer’s truck!

We work with speed, consistency, and agility.

A truckload of produce is like a ticking time bomb; each hour and day is critical for a successful recovery. Farmlink meets this challenge head-on. Farmlink can deliver a donation within 24 hours to families and food banks. Other food banks may take 3-21 days to deliver.

We are equipped to rescue any volume of food at any part of the supply chain.

Our network of transportation and logistics partners gives us national coverage, allowing us to recover surplus food at any stage of the food supply chain regardless of quantity or location.

We support communities that have been historically underserved.

Food insecurity rates for African American, Latinx and Indigenous families are disproportionally high. We offset the transportation costs that food banks may have to pay so that every community has equal access to consistent nutritious produce.

Advocate for policies that increase farmers' access to tax benefits for surplus food donation.

We advocate to increase the accessibility of current tax benefits to encourage surplus food donation, alongside implementing new tax incentives to increase access to nutritious food for all.

JOIN THE
Harvest

We are grateful to have a group of ambitious, determined doers supporting our movement. We’d like to give this community a name.

Allow us to introduce The Harvest: new moniker, same monthly giving community. With the generosity of these individuals, we have rescued and redistributed over 100 million pounds of produce to families nationwide.

The Harvest is essential for sustaining food recovery at a tremendous scale. Together, one truckload at a time, we can make the abundance of nutritious produce accessible to everyone.
Join the harvest - you'd fit right in.
$1 = 18 Meals

Research shows that access to nutritious food increases your life expectancy by 10 years. It is our mission to ensure no one goes without the food they need.

Farms Have Extra Food

Farmlink gets a call from our farming partners that they have perfectly good produce that would be thrown away.

Truck is Dispatched

Farmlink coordinates the logistics between the farm and food bank. We cover the cost of trucking and transporting the rescued produce.

Produce Arrives at Food Bank

Fresh, nutrient dense vegetables and fruits arrive at partner food banks who organize distribution to other community partners or directly to those in need.

From Farm to Table

Families around the country enjoy this nutritious food that otherwise would have gone to waste.

We didn't set out to create an organization, but rather do something to help our community.

In the onset of the pandemic, we got together a small group of friends to send food to our local food bank.

We rented uhauls that we drove ourselves and completed our first shipment in April 2020. Fast forward six months and hundreds of students would ban together to move over 10 million lbs of nutritious produce nationwide.
